Family Rise Together

Family Rise Together

Welcome to Family Rise Together, a Black-led nonprofit rooted in Duluth, MN. Our mission revolves around crafting and executing effective strategies for holistic family well-being. We stand committed to uplifting individuals from diverse backgrounds, including the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities.
At Family Rise Together, our core focus areas are housing, mental health and substance use, kinship navigation services, and supporting BIPOC entrepreneurs. Additionally, we place particular emphasis on empowering fathers and father figures to foster family values, embrace social roles, and actively engage within their communities. We aspire to disrupt the cycle of poverty, abuse, trauma, and more, paving the way for brighter futures.
Family Rise Together history is serving communities disproportionately affected by either socioeconomics or health challenges. Our approach to addressing disparities is to provide a safe environment, responsive to the identified needs of our clients. We are committed to promoting health equity and reducing disparities while educating and breaking the stigma around mental health, disabilities, and homelessness.

Programs and Services

(Multiple Programs)

FRT is a provider of Housing Stabilization Services, a Minnesota Medical Assistance benefit to help seniors and people with disabilities, including mental illness and substance use disorder, find and keep housing. We leverage Family Homeless Prevention & Assistance Program (FHPAP) funding and the Housing Trust Fund Rental Assistance Program (HTF) to help achieve housing stability and transition to permanent sustainable housing opportunities. We also provide safe, person-centered living arrangements and supplemental services to eligible individuals experiencing housing instability and/or long-term homelessness (LTH) in communities of their choice using Housing Support dollars.

Healthy Place

(Mental Health & Wellness Services)

Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) is a high-impact program that addresses the wellbeing of individuals with mental illness by providing culturally specific mental health services that emphasizes trust, respect, dignity, and compassion. We support people in areas such as medication education and monitoring, basic social and living skills, symptom management, household management, and employment-related or community living transitions. Our ARMHS services are rehabilitative and can help you to develop and enhance psychiatric stability, social competencies, personal and emotional adjustment, and independent living and community skills when these abilities are impaired by the symptoms of mental illness.

Growing Kinship Connection

(Culturally equitable kinship navigation service)

Growing Kinship Connection (GKC) increases the well-being of children and families by reducing risk factors and increasing protective factors for children and youth. Our Growing Kinship Connection program aims to reduce out-of-home placement, increase kinship placement, and support the engagement of fathers and father-figures. Our program places a unique focus on engaging BIPOC fathers/father figures to be active in their children’s lives while understanding the historical trauma of slavery and the impact of prison pipeline.

Micro Enterprise

(Economic Development & Stability)

In partnership with CM Solutions, our Micro-Enterprise program provides entrepreneurial technical assistance, access to capital, a peer network support system, referrals, advocacy, and business coaching services. We grow economic stability, a vibrant community, and financial independence for under-served BIPOC individuals and families in our region. The entrepreneurs we serve are primarily BIPOC and Communities of Poverty members.
